• Resumen

  Las Burschenschaften son hermandades académicas nacionalistas, cuyo apogeo se dio entre la constitución del Imperio Alemán en 1871 y la emergencia del fascismo en Alemania y Austria, durante la década de los años 1920. Con la emigración germana hacia América del Sur durante el siglo XIX, este modelo de corporación se extendió también a Chile, donde perdura desde 1896 hasta la actualidad. La evolución de estas instituciones de socialización patriótica estuvo acompañada desde el principio de procesos de intercambio y transferencia con las hermandades en Alemania y Austria. En estos, las ideas étnicas (völkisch) eran cruciales. Que el partido austriaco de extrema derecha Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (FPÖ), entre cuyas filas se encuentra un buen número de miembros de Burschenschaften, tenga un interés especial por sus pares en Chile no parece, desde una perspectiva histórica, sorprendente. Asimismo, la creciente importancia de la Alternative für Deutschland y su cercanía con las Burschenschaften en Alemania parece indicar que las comunidades de origen alemán en América del Sur estarán, cada vez más, en el punto de mira de este partido de derechas.

• Abstract

  Burschenschaften are academic nationalist fraternities, whose apogee was between the German Empire’s constitution in 1871 and the fascism emergence in Germany, during the 1920s. Because of German emigration to South America in the 19th century, this association type also spread to Chile where it endured from 1896 onwards until today. These institutions for patriotic socialization were built and maintained from the beginning by exchange and transfer processes with fraternities in Germany and Austria. In these processes ethnic ideas (völkisch) were crucial. It is not surprising, from an historical viewpoint, that the Austrian far-right party Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (FPÖ), having a great number of Burschenschaft members in its ranks, has special interest in their Chilean offspring. Likewise, the growing importance of the Alternative für Deutschland and its proximity to Burschenschaften in Germany seems to indicate that foreign communities of German origin in South America will increasingly become a focus for this far-right party.
