• Resumen

  Con base en la prensa del exilio español en México y en testimonios orales, este artículo aporta sobre los contactos y lazos entre la notable feminista española Belén de Sárraga Hernández y la Unión de Mujeres Españolas Antifascistas (UMEA) en México, en su lucha contra el fascismo y el franquismo. La postura anticlerical y librepensadora de Sárraga Hernández que venía desde finales del siglo XIX, se entretejió con una actitud pacifista durante el ascenso del fascismo y el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La lucha contra el fascismo vinculó a Sárraga y a las mujeres de la UMEA. Se concluye que el caso de Sárraga muestra que hubo una continuidad de las movilizaciones de las mujeres a favor de la paz de finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX con las de las décadas de 1930 y 1940.

• Abstract

  Based on the Spanish exiled press and oral testimonies, this article discusses the contacts between the well-known Spanish feminist Belén Sárraga Hernández and the Spanish Antifascist Women´s Union (UMEA) in Mexico, in their fight against fascism and Francisco Franco. Sarraga´s anticlerical and freethinking stance dating from the late nineteenth century, was interwoven with a pacifist attitude during the rise of fascism and the outbreak of World War II. The fight against Fascism linked Sárraga and UMEA´s women. This article concludes that Sárraga´s case confirms the continuity of the mobilizations of women for peace in the late Nineteenth Century and early Twentieth Century with the one of the 1930s and 1940s.
